When a war drags on over time, international attention risks diminishing before the needs of the population.
However, for those living in the Kharkiv region, the emergency is not distant news. It continues to impact daily life, access to essential goods, and the ability to care for oneself in dignified conditions.
It is in this context that the project continues Acqua Viva 04/UCr/13157/2026, funded by AICS Kyiv and created with the direct participation of POBIC ONG.
As of June 30, they have been distributed 1,089 personal hygiene kits in the communities of the Kharkiv region. A concrete result, marking the transition from the availability of aid to its actual distribution on the ground.
In previous update on the Acqua Viva project, POBIC had reported the arrival in Kharkiv of about 15 tons of personal care products.
The new data documents the next phase of the intervention: the materials received were organized into kits and progressively distributed to the recipient communities.
It is not just about quantifying the aid delivered. Each distribution represents a response to a daily need that, in a situation of war and displacement, can become difficult to meet.
He 40% of the kits distributed it was allocated as a priority to people in conditions of particular vulnerability and need, including people with disabilities and the elderly.
The allocation was made based on an assessment of specific needs, in order to direct support toward those who may face greater difficulties in independently accessing essential goods.
It is an important element of the project: not an indiscriminate distribution, but an intervention attentive to the conditions of individuals and the inequalities that war tends to worsen.
For an elderly person or a person with a disability, in fact, the interruption of services, the loss of their support networks, and difficulties in getting around can make it even more complex to obtain even what is needed for daily care.
In a humanitarian emergency, the personal care products they may seem less urgent than other aid. In reality, help protect health, prevent health problems and preserve human dignity.
Being able to wash and take care of one's body means preserving an essential part of one's daily life, even when war has interrupted habits, relationships, and certainties.
The value of the Acqua Viva project also lies in this: recognizing that humanitarian assistance is not just about survival, but also about the right to live in conditions that are as safe and dignified as possible.
More than four years after the start of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis remains extremely grave. According to the UN Humanitarian Plan for 2026, circa 10.8 million people still need humanitarian assistance in the country.
In this scenario, the distribution of the 1,089 kits represents a limited, yet necessary intervention. It demonstrates how collaboration among humanitarian organizations, local field workers, and institutions can transform resources and materials into effective support for communities.
A kit cannot return what war has taken away. However, it can protect a part of a person's daily life, health, and dignity. And it is also through concrete actions like this that POBIC continues to stand by the Ukrainian population.
Enrico has been working in digital marketing and communication for over ten years. His personal journey, which has also included difficult moments and new beginnings, has taught him to recognize the value of vulnerabilities and people. Today he is an active part of Pobic's communication team: he manages the website, writes content, and helps tell stories of projects and testimonials with respect, concreteness, and authenticity. For him, communicating does not mean making reality look better, but rather conveying it with dignity and making it feel closer.
