However, some concerning circumstances have emerged.
Here are the words of Dr. Michielon
On Friday I operated on Ariella Matovu for a complete atrioventricular canal defect. It was a complex procedure because she had impairment in both the right and left sides of the heart. Everything went well; she is already in the ward. However, pre-operative brain MRI scans revealed brain abnormalities, most likely secondary to malnutrition.
Clinically asymptomatic infant regarding neurological aspects. It would be useful to repeat a brain MRI before discharge.
Now more than ever, it is essential to be close to her.
Ariella will arrive in Italy on June 3 and will be taken to the Gaslini Institute in Genoa.
The institute has been collaborating with the Open Heart project for many years and has helped us save dozens upon dozens of children. Over the years, more than 60 have escaped death thanks to this program, and the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa is on the front line with us to not let these young lives die.

The Non-Governmental Organization POBIC was founded on September 28, 1992 as AnPobic, an acronym for Associazione Nazionale Promozione Opere Benefiche a favore degli Invalidi Civili (National Association for the Promotion of Charitable Works in Favor of the Civilly Disabled). The founders are Piras, Triesto, and Finetti, from Brescia. In its early years, it dealt with the issues of the civilly disabled in northern Italy. Paolo Federico Novellini became president on April 1, 1996, succeeding Giuseppe Lucchesi.
The first international commitment came in 1999 in Kosovo with the delivery of clothing and food supplies, and the first modification of the bylaws took place, opening the association's activities abroad as well. The year 2001, on the other hand, was marked by exploratory commitments in Ukraine, Morocco, and the Ivory Coast.
